Baited Shark Dive

Are you interested in getting up close and personal with sharks and capturing amazing videos and photos? Do you want to have a photo of yourself surrounded by sharks? Perhaps you’ve never seen a shark before and you’re looking for your first encounter? If so, then a baited dive is perfect for you.

During a baited dive, we dive to a depth of 10 meters, so only an open water dive certification is required. It’s important to have good buoyancy as the dive takes place in half open water with no reef as a reference point.

Before the dive, our divemaster will provide thorough  breathing that you please must listen carefully  to ensure everything runs smoothly. Baited shark dives in South Africa are conducted without cages. Sharks are attracted to the area using a “bait-ball” or drum filled with bait, typically sardines.  Sharks you may see are Bull sharks, Ocean Blacktip, Tiger sharks.

PLEASE NOTE!

ALL DIVES ARE SUBJECT TO WEATHER CONDITIONS ON THE DAY!

Our dives are strictly weather-dependent, meaning they can be canceled even on the day of the dive. Every morning, our skipper visits our base and assesses the conditions to ensure the safety of our divers.

If a dive is canceled due to weather conditions, you may choose to reschedule for another day, opt for one of our day tours, or receive a refund.

Due to the logistical planning involved in running a successful dive charter, dives canceled by the customer with less than 48 hours’ notice will not be refunded. Additionally, dives will not be refunded on the day if the reason for cancelation is being cold, seasick, hungover, tired, unable to descend, or a no-show.

NB! Deposits for promotional packages are non-refundable. Only dives canceled due to unsafe launch conditions or other safety concerns will be refunded.

Please note that Protea Banks is a Marine Protected Area; therefore, EVERY diver requires an MPA permit. These can be obtained from any post office (monthly or annual) or, for your convenience, from us (monthly only).
