Sodwana is a paradise for scuba divers, watersports enthusiasts and nature lovers. Sodwana Bay is also famous as the place where the pre-historical coelacanth was first discovered alive in 2000 after scientists believed it was extinct. 

World famous for its unspoiled reefs that offer incredible scuba diving and snorkeling, Sodwana Bay National Park is situated in the Maputoland Marine Reserveson on the Elephant coast. The reserve is part of the world heritage site  iSimangaliso Wetland Park. This nature reserve was created to protect Africa’s southern-most coral reefs. The St. Lucia and Maputoland Marine Reserves are linked to each other to form a continuous protected area stretching 150km (93 miles) from the Mozambique border south to Cape Vidal and 3 nautical miles out to sea. 

The dive in Sodwana Bay is one of the best in the world. The pristine reefs and incredible diversity of life will blow your mind. The coral reefs of Sodwana Bay are extremely diverse and have a very high level of endemism of species that are only found in these waters – approximately 1230 fish species and 130 different coral species on the reefs.  There are also mega fauna such as whale sharks, whales, manta rays and sea turtles which are encountered off the coast during breeding season. Often referred to as one the top 10 dive sites in the world  Sodwana Bay has an incredible variety of marine life and dive sites suiting different level of training. The reefs are still pristine and dive sites are filled with hard and soft corals that are home of shoals of tropical fish and more than 1,200 species of marine life.
